When you start your affiliate marketing business, the most important tip I can give you is to work it as a business. First, you need to find yourself some space to work in. If you don’t have a spare room, I suggest you put the computer up in a bedroom, where it is away from the noise of the TV and everyday life.

Now you have somewhere to work, set yourself a number of hours to work each week on affiliate marketing, whether this involves working in the evenings, or stopping the work you would be doing on other projects during the day.

Second affiliate marketing tip: set your working hours

How much time? The more the better, but if you are working at a job, I recommend you try to work 10 hours a week at affiliate marketing, and if that seems impossible start with 6 hours a week. That is about the minimum. That would probably include one hour at the weekend.

If you are not ready to spend an hour each weekend on this part-time job, maybe affiliate marketing is not for you. That may seem a bit harsh, but the fact is that once you have your own business you will need to work quite a few hours at it at least in the early days.

If you have more time, either because you have a part-time job, or have lost your job, then try to work 20 hours a week at affiliate marketing.

Set yourself tasks for each week

Next, you need to set yourself some tasks. These are the most important jobs, the ones that will have most effect on pushing your business forward so it is making money. At first, you will probably find that you will not get many jobs done. This is almost always the case.

Next week, carry forward the jobs you did not do, and add new ones. But this time, reduce the total number slightly, and re-assess the importance of each job. By now you may decide that some of the tasks are not so important after all.

You can also set daily tasks, but if you are only working a few hours a day at affiliate marketing, a list of weekly tasks will be more useful.

Choose carefully

My third affiliate marketing tip is to choose the affiliate products you market carefully. By all means sign up for quite a number of products while you are scanning the list of possibles, because you may find a way of marketing them later. However, you should start off marketing only one or two products. Here are my tips for selection:

1.Look for affiliate products in strong markets, preferably where you have some interest or knowledge, but where it is obvious there is a big market. If there is a market, there will be plenty of products out there, and there will be people who have a need or strong desire for that product.

2.Find a niche within that market, preferably a small market, but still where people have a need or desire. For example, dating is a big market, but you would need to find a product suitable for a small niche.

3.Find products that are selling well. On Clickbank, a high gravity tells you a product is selling well, and most affiliate networks have some method of ranking.

The 5th affiliate marketing tip

My final tip of this group is this: keep a journal, where you record what you do. This can consist of short notes, just to remind you what you have done, which programs you have signed up for, and so on. Of course, you need to record all your affiliate codes and programs, and the best place for this is a spreadsheet.

If you follow these affiliate marketing tips, you will soon get your business working for you, and will start making some money.

Get Rich Quick Scams Revealed

Read this article before you consider paying for a “get rich quick” program.

From: Dreamweaver Tutorial

Everybody would love to make lots of money quickly, working from home, and only doing a few hours of work per week. I’ve spent the past two years trying to find a great way of doing this. Only over the course of the past few months have I found any “get rich quick” programs worth buying. I’ve been trying to make money online for a long time. I had a few small websites, but they never made much more than a few hundred per month. It was easy money and didn’t require much work on my part, but I knew there were people out there doing better than I was and I knew I could do as well as them.

Now, I’ve seen a lot of “get rich quick” programs. Most of these people make claims about earning $2000/day with Google or something similarly insane. Almost all of these people are complete liars. Even if they were making $2000/day with Google AdSense, it’d be because they had high- traffic websites with a lot of quality content. I’d know, because in one whole month, I never even made half of what they promised I’d make daily with their programs. Maybe you’ve already been scammed by one of these fraudsters. Anyway, I finally got sick of what was being offered.

I decided I’d look through the all of the “get rich quick” programs I could find and see if there were any that were actually legitimate. I found that there were owners selling their programs for well over $100, but the information in them could be found almost anywhere online for free. Additionally, they all contained out-of-date information, had no e-mail support, no money back guarantees, and broken links in the downloads section.

In conclusion, almost all of the programs I found were completely useless. The owners knew it, but they couldn’t care less about their customers since they didn’t offer refund policies! Amazingly, while looking through all of the programs, I actually did find a few legitimate programs. They were run by ordinary people like you and me, and they had found some great methods of making money from their home by doing very little work.

I spent some time working with those programs, and my income is now ten times what it used to be. These programs provided a large amount of great information on how to make extra money on your computer doing very little work. Numerous customers had provided great feedback and reviews for their products. Many of them have started to make money just days after buying!

Their programs have excellent prices, and the authors have a group of paid staff who are dedicating to helping you or providing assistance if you need any. I must say I was amazed! If you do decide to purchase any of the programs listed below, I recommend you join quickly. Most of the owners tell me they are getting an overwhelming number of sales and plan on raising prices in the near future, so order while prices are still low!

To Your Online Success,

Simple Strategies to Build your Home-based Business Faster and Easier

One of the biggest mistakes new home-based business owners make is trying to do everything from square one.

You can rest assured that whatever you are attempting to do or build, it has already been done.

Sure, it probably won’t be a mirror image of what you’re doing, but it will have many of the same basic ingredients.

The fastest and easiest way to get your business going and growing is by finding others who have already done what you want to do and learning and benefiting from their efforts.

A local business person recently told me he was in the process of building an autoresponder. Of course, this wouldn’t be a strange thing to be doing if it was a service he plans to sell, but it has nothing to do with his business!

Instead of investing a few hours to explore those autoresponders already in existence, he is investing well more than a hundred hours trying to build one on his own so he can communicate with his customers.

By conducting only a couple of hours research, he would have discovered a variety of outstanding, affordable autoresponder services that are highly sophisticated and subject to continual upgrading and improvement to keep up with ever-changing technology and consumer needs.

Imagine the kind of business he could have generated for himself if he focused those one hundred plus hours acquiring new customers for his business and expanding and improving on his products and services!

Unfortunately, like him, many new home business owners are still of the employee mindset — that they have to work relentlessly and do everything alone.

They haven’t yet developed the entrepreneurial mindset that understands you have to work smarter, not harder.

Another time-consuming task many new business owners take on is spending hours, even days, trying to design the perfect logo. I’m embarrassed to say I spent DAYS searching the Internet for sample logos, looking for ideas, then sitting and drawing possible logo after logo.

Most people have more creative flair in their big toe than I have in my entire body, yet I thought that if I put enough time into it, even though it meant not focusing on increasing business, the perfect logo would reveal itself.

I eventually abandoned the obsession and as soon as I handed the project over to my web designer, I had a new, effective and eye-catching logo within 24 hours.

It was a costly mistake. I had spent so many years working in a support capacity that I didn’t know how to make the shift to a leader capacity and delegate the task.

(Even more important, I later realized, having a logo is waaaay down on the priority scale and doesn’t even have to be considered during the start-up period.)

As you are starting your business, consider the following tasks and ask yourself if someone else could be doing them while you focus on building:

designing brochures and marketing materials

creating your web site

setting up your voice mail and e-mail

purchasing supplies and equipment

stuffing envelopes and taking them to the post office, or delivering flyers

market research

hooking up your new computer, modem, fax and installing software

trouble shooting computer problems

writing articles, reports or white papers

These are not revenue generating activities and if you find them challenging or time-consuming, delegate these tasks to someone else like a family member, co-op student or part-time assistant.

For the more specialized items, seek the input of a mastermind member or business colleague on how they handle those responsibilities. Also, hire or barter with experts in marketing, web design and technology.

Another wheel you don’t need to re-invent is that of processes, particularly in the area of marketing.

Marketing may not be your forte, yet it is the most important element of your business, and this is where many new home business owners bury themselves.

The good news is you don’t have to develop your marketing process by trial and error. Commit several days to studying other businesses both in and outside of your industry. How do they promote themselves? How do they collect leads? How do they convert leads?

In other words, how do they catch the attention of potential customers, get them to express an interest to learn more, and how do they get them to ultimately pull out their wallets and buy?

The quickest and easiest way to create winning processes is to study already successful businesses, then model what they do. Sign up for their newsletters and request additional information. Let them begin a courtship with you and pay attention to what they’re doing. Buy a product or two and see what tools they use to keep inviting you back for more.

This doesn’t mean copy them word for word or action by action, but assimilate what works, mould it to your specific business and add the essential ingredient of uniqueness that allows you to stand out from the crowd.

These are just three simple strategies you can start with today to get on the fast-track to home business success.

Again, here they are in a nutshell:

Uncover what has already been created or invented, then implement or install. Don’t reinvent the wheel.

Think like a business owner, not an employee. Delegate, hire or trade.

Model the processes of others who have already achieved the level of success you’re seeking. They’ve already made the mistakes for you and know what works.

Incorporate these strategies and you will shave hours and dollars from your start-up curve and begin reaping the rewards faster than you ever thought possible.

Repeat Business Game Plans Can Build Your Residual Income

Regular sales streams can come from carefully set up sales structure by you the business owner. Structuring you inter net sales offerings using a repeat business game plan can build your residual income in a reasonable amount of time.

Building and using subscription and regular follow up product portfolio updates in your online business will make a nice steady income for you. Successful businesses do this and build their clientele on this basis.

What you need to search for and build on is a product system that needs to be renewed monthly or over a predesignated period of time. Water and utility companies are the easiest examples to understand.

Repeat business will drive your sales and profits up steadily.

Surprisingly, most so called internet gurus do not do this. They come up with brilliant products but seldom do you see subscription ones.

Your profit and sales will come easier to you if you build your product sales game plan with repeat business, in mind, for your customer base

Using a repeat business product sales mix will cause you less stress in meeting your monthly expenses. It is also essential to your financial growth. Stretching out high ticket products over months or a year is one way to do this.

High ticket products will be within the budget of your customers if you offer them on a payment plan of six to twelve months. One excellent eBay trainer does this with a high ticket training program. Another highly known web site sales trainer does this also.

Other examples of repeat sales are financial authors through biweekly or monthly stock, bond and other investment advisory newsletters. Training programs for inter net sales or web content writer article updates are good also.

Repeat business develops as customers return to buy from you again and again because you provide a needed service they cannot do themselves, such as the latest marketing updates to their web sites. If you are a computer programmer this will be a natural for you.

Having a free newsletter to an opt in email list that you constantly build through capturing visitor emails, when they visit your web site, is a natural for this. List members will get more confidence in you when you regularly send them useful information.

List members will be more ready to buy from your product offerings as your self esteem grows with them. So, one of your jobs will be to find a steady stream of commission type affiliate product
How to Build a Computer – 13 – Power Supplies

s, that are good only, that you can offer your growing mailing list.

Once your mailing list members have bought something from you using your good article content, that works, you have them hooked! Nurture your mailing list of members and customers with great care. They can be a fortune to you. They are your income family.

The great mailing list owners on the inter net get further boost from good service by getting free word of mouth or keyboard advertising from their members and customers. They will tell friends, relatives and associates about you and your fine content niche list will grow further yet.

Notice how you feel more comfortable when shopping from someone who was referred to you by a satisfied customer you know? That applies here, in exciting duplication, of your sales and member list.

When this happens to you it is a sure sign you are using good web site and email article content in your game plan to build your residual income. Your repeat customers will follow you, justifiably, like groupies.

baby sit them, nurture them and they will be yours forever.

Your repeat customers will want and even need to shop with you, when money is tight, and they need your products because they know and trust you. If they have a gripe make every effort to handle it like your financial life depends on it. Because it does.

Your customer base is your success. Repeat business customers are yours for life. Do not be afraid of giving an occasional refund you feel is unjustified to a repeat customer who has been good income for you.

Make them aware of this and boldly inform them that you are doing this because you want them to be with you for life.

They will eat this up like little boys and girls with cookies and milk. Dynamite will not be able to separate or take these customers from you.

Repeat business builds your income like nothing else. You, in all your learning and inter net training, will find nothing as powerful as repeat customers. The only article content product that comes close to it is compound interest. It is practically the same thing.

You honestly want to understand how important this concept is. Other legitimate and ethical effective tricks you can use are customer cards, in the form of emails that give discounts and benefits to loyal customers.

Keep track of when all your customers last purchases were.

Once you start picking up purchase patterns of your customers you will literally know when they are ripe for their next purchase. Factors like budget availability, product need and inter net trends will be big clues for you as to when to put these buy hints in communications to them.

Never forget a customer who purchases from you. If you satisfy them once you have built a powerful sales and profit beginning.

I have had customers get angry with me when I did not follow up with them and they lost my contact information and bought something from someone else that was poor quality.

So, have you learned something from this article content here? Bend over backwards to learn how to do repeat sales.

Once you have a repeat customer, nurture them and kiss their butts to keep them. Well, maybe not go that far but, I think you get the picture.

Residual income streams make you one of the big boys or girls. All major inter net providers and offline businesses make high percentages of their profits from repeat sale residual income.

You will benefit from this if you make it a major part of your online and offline business philosophy.

Build Your Business Around Your Lifestyle And Increase Your Gross Business Happiness

Does your business bring you happiness? Is your business built around your lifestyle? Or is your life forced to conform to your business?

Bhutan’s King Jigme Singye Wangchuck gained some fame for putting forward the “radical” idea that a country’s success should not be measured in terms of its GNP. Instead, he suggested measuring the success of a nation by its GNH—its Gross National Happiness. He pointed out that if the people are not leading happy, fulfilling lives, it doesn’t matter how healthy a country’s economy is.

This same notion can easily be applied to your business. If it’s not making you happy, it may be time to re-assess the reasons you went into business in the first place.

= Why Did You Start Your Business? =

Did you start your own business for money or freedom? Did you want to be in full control of your time and your life? What are your priorities?

Maybe you wanted to get away from the rat race of the corporate world. Maybe you pictured yourself free from five days a week in a cramped cubicle, pictured yourself spending more time with your family. You saw yourself choosing your own hours and having time to enjoy your hobbies, travel, sports.

Running a business can either give you that freedom or it can rob you of it. It all depends on how you build your business in the first place. If you set some rules from the beginning, define what you want to do, then build your business around your lifestyle, you will reap a high level of GBH—Gross Business Happiness.

= How To Get Happiness From Your Business =

First, decide what you want in your life. Picture your ideal lifestyle. Do you want to spend long vacations in other lands? Do you want to work evenings and have your days free for golf? Do you want to stay at your ski chalet for a month every Spring? Write down exactly what your business will allow you to do … what kind of lifestyle it will let you lead.

Next, write down what you will or will not do in your business. Do you like meeting customers? Or would you rather keep them on the other side of a computer screen? Do you want to go on business trips? Or are you a happy homebody? Do you want to sell physical products? Or do you want to sell downloadable information products or software … and avoid the hassles of inventory?

Using a list of rules for your business will also ensure that your business is successful. When your goals for your business reflect the priorities in your life, it is much easier to be disciplined and follow your business plan.

= When Your Business Fits Your Lifestyle It Will Flourish =

Because your business activities allow for your lifestyle, there is less temptation to sidetrack you from the jobs you need to accomplish. You’ll find it much easier to stick to your goals. Since your business doesn’t intrude on your life, your life doesn’t interfere with your business.

Spend some time building your business around your lifestyle. Build it around your needs and wants, and your business will bring you not only money … but also happiness.

1.Case with 500 watt power supply – Raidmax Smilodon 89.99
2.Motherboard Biostar P4m80 46.99
3.CPU – Pentium 4 Socket 478 3.0E $79.99
4.Ram(Memory) PQI 512MB DDR SDRAM 51.49
5.Hard Drive Seagate Momentus 69.99
6.CD Burner Lite-on 18.99
7.Ethernet card – Internet Connection 10.00
8.windows XP Home Edition 89.99

By the way all these prices come from newegg.com

Total cost of parts minus shipping: $457.43

Can’t forget Windows XP!
$89.99

Tools Needed:

Believe it or not, all you really need is a good screwdriver set. Philips head and flat head of course. For Safety reasons, never build a computer while it is plugged into the wall. Common sense here people.

Build It!

The process of building a PC consists of several major phases. One of the most important is installing the mainboard into the system case. However, once the mainboard is in the case, it is rather difficult to access it to install components on the board. For that reason most PC assemblers first set up the mainboard with critical components before they put the mainboard into the case. In this section we’ll do exactly that. We’ll start by installing the CPU into the mainboard, then attach the fan, and finally, insert the RAM.

Placing the CPU into its socket is easy, and we’ll do it in three steps. First, we’ll prepare the mainboard to accept the CPU. Then we’ll open and examine the CPU Socket. Finally, we’ll insert the CPU into the mainboard and secure it in place.

Before touching the CPU chip, touch your hands to a grounded piece of metal. Touch the CPU chip only by its edges to protect it from static electricity!

Hold the CPU only by the edges. Due to the pin configuration, the CPU will only insert in the correct orientation. Continue to push the lock lever down. When it gets to the close (fully down) position, gently pull the lever slightly away from the socket to clear the notch that locks it into place. Then, allow the natural springiness of the lever to move the lever back toward the socket so it’s held in place by the notch.
You now have the CPU properly inserted into the socket.
Checking Installation and Connecting the Fan
The installation instructions say you should examine the seating of the heatsink to be sure it’s resting properly on the die. In practice, it’s difficult if not impossible to do this. But, if you have a good light handy, you can peek between the heatsink and the CPU if you want. (Incidentally, a Mini-Mag AA flashlight is a great tool to have handy here.)
Finally, examine the mainboard manual and see where the three-pin CPU fanpower connection pins are. They’re usually clearly marked. Then, plug in the heatsink fan Don’t forget to plug in the heatsink/CPU fan! Do this immediately after the heatsink is installed! If the heatsink fan isn’t plugged in, it won’t work and your CPU will overheat. When your system is fully assembled, it’s a good idea to leave the side of the case off and examine all of the fans to be sure they’re operating properly.

Preparing to Install the RAM
RAM is very sensitive to static electricity. Before picking up a RAM chip, touch both hands to a metal piece to draw any static electricity away from your hands. You might also want to wear a grounding wrist strap when you install the memory. Try to touch the RAM only on its two sides and the top near the sides. The sides are great for picking it up, but you’ll need to push it into its socket from the top. Try not to touch the chips themselves or the metal contacts. And, leave the RAM in its original packaging until you’re ready to install it.
Not touching the metal leads of the memory is also important because oils that build up on your hands can damage the leads.
Examine the RAM sockets and the RAM chip You’ll see that RAM can only be inserted in one direction, because there’s a small cut out separating the metal contacts (also called leads) on the RAM chip into two sides. Each side has a different number of metal contacts, making it impossible to seat the RAM chip incorrectly. Be sure the notch in the RAM chip is aligned with the protruding part on the RAM socket.

In Short, your ¾ of the way there! Now Screw in the motherboard to the case. Connect the Power supply to the motherboard and you’re in business. Make sure all connections are made such as connections to the hard drive and cd-burner. Now you’re catching on.

Now it’s test time. Put the Windows disk in the cd drive and plug it in. If all went well, Windows will carry you through the rest.

Congratulations!! You just built your own computer!

Build an Online Money Machine

It’s for sure! Online money is out there. Here I explain what separates the big money winners from the losers. I need to first show you some of the key ideas that pre-date the Internet.

Before the Internet

The need to make money has always been with us. One of the earliest strategies to accomplish this was the “chain letter”. Don’t worry – I’m not promoting a chain letter – rather explaining a lesson we can all learn from that ill-fated methodology.

The power of the chain letter lay in the fact that it allowed people to leverage their investment. It worked like this.

You get a letter that asks you to:

* Send a small amount of money to the person whose name is at the top of a list of future recipients.

* Delete the first recipient on the list, and put your own name on the bottom of the list.

* Copy and mail the letter to as many people as you can.

If you sent the letter to 100 people, and each of them sent it to 100, and so on, by the time your name got to the top of the list it would be in the hands of many thousands of recipients – each of whom would send you a small amount of money.

How Chain Letters Didn’t Work

The principle problem with the chain letter was that your small donation to the person at the top of the list was a gift. You got nothing in return. For this reason, our country’s lawmakers got into the act.

The “End” of the Chain Letter

Lawmakers don’t like to see large amounts of money changing hands without getting their own hands on some of it – to tax it in other words.

So the “authorities” outlawed the chain letter as you might expect. The public rationale was that the process would sooner or later “saturate”, because 100 x 100 x 100 x etc. would eventually encompass everyone on the planet, and those joining toward the end would never get the “reward” they had been “promised”.

This action ignored the fact that no chain letter in history ever actually “saturated”. But the concept looked good mathematically and seemed popular with the voters; so the public remains “protected” from chain letters to this day.

The Invention of Multilevel Marketing (MLM)

In the early sixties, a little vitamin company called Nutrilite invented the marketing strategy we know today as multilevel marketing.

This was a very clever idea. It built on sequential recruitment, the basis of the chain letter; but it sold real products: vitamins. Now there was value received in every transaction.

Two young men partnered up and got really successful at this business and wound up buying Nutrilite. Out of this grew the giant multilevel company known as Amway. Its annual sales hit a billion dollars around 1986, and is approaching seven billion dollars a year today (2008).

MLMs and the Law

The Federal Trade Commission (FTC) took Amway to court, claiming that the sequential recruitment of distributors violated the anti-chain-letter laws.

Amazing! The courts finally did something right. They recognized that there is nothing basically wrong with sequential recruitment, and completely exonerated Amway.

When the dust had settled, the FTC and the Department of “Justice” agreed to re-define the chain letter and the MLM so the chain letter remained illegal while the MLM was officially legalized.

Many people learned from this that sequential recruitment is legal when the customers actually receive something they want in return for their money.

Mail-Order MLM

Still talking pre-Internet lore: it wasn’t long before enterprising individuals began building mail order businesses in which the products sold were documents (small booklets) that provided the reader with useful information.

Such documents were easy to create, cheap to produce, and inexpensive to mail. Employing sequential recruitment similar to that used by chain letters, such businesses provided (for a price) the document products and the methodology of distribution.

It was up to each participant to reproduce the documents, to advertise them via the mail, and to deliver them via mail as promised.

This system of doing business meets all the legal standards of current MLM laws and provides for a very high return on investment. A document that cost 50¢ to produce and another 50¢ to mail might sell for $10 or $20. This business model is still much in use today, and huge profits are being made.

The use of the Internet to facilitate this money making process further amplifies the method’s profitability and makes it accessible to almost anyone. Its development was the next step towards creation of the first online money making machine.

Enter the Internet

On the Internet today, free or inexpensive email to opt-in lists, cheap classified advertising, and highly targeted (though not-so-cheap) search engine advertising make it possible to advertise much more cheaply than can be done by conventional mail.

The cheap and, often automated, creation of personal websites puts large amounts of information in the hands of would-be “infopreneurs” at a fraction of the cost of snail-mail distribution.

Instead of printing and mailing booklets to their customers, businesses of this sort simply receive payment via secure credit card transaction, and then permit the buyer to download the product at the click of a mouse at essentially no cost to the seller.

Thus the properly equipped “infopreneur” creates a virtual money-making machine that handles all the formerly laborious tasks associated with mail-order document sales.

By combining the best features of sequential recruitment, MLM sales, and mail-order document sales with the computer automation provided by the Internet, today’s infopreneur can make large amounts of money in record time. This is the basis of virtually all the big online money-makers.

The worse the economy, the higher the unemployment level, the fewer the jobs available, the more attractive this kind of business is to the public.

The Best Online Money Machine – So Far

Examples of this newly developed business technology come in many styles. Some are well explained and easy to implement; some are more complex and not so well documented. Unless you want to build your own online money machine from scratch – a major undertaking that I don’t recommend – I suggest that you plug into an existing one that works.

To see the best example of this technology that I have found so far – one that is simple, legal, honest, and ethical – you don’t have to look far.

Use Kitchen Cabinets as TV Cabinet or Computer Armoire Without Custom Cabinet Prices

TV Cabinets, or Armoires, are fast becoming the norm in American homes.  Coming in all shapes and sizes, these pieces of furniture are popular ways to store television sets and related video and sound equipment.

Getting exactly what you want may be difficult though, since manufacturers only make a set amount of models; you need to shop around extensively for just the right one.  What if even then you can’t find a setup you like?

Custom TV cabinets are another option.  These tend to be on the pricey side, and can cost several thousand dollars.  It is possible though, with creative use of kitchen cabinetry, to create a customized tv cabinet at a price you can live with.

There are no rules anywhere stating that a wall cabinet must go on the kitchen wall, or that kitchen cabinets need to go in the kitchen at all.  What prevents you from putting them in a living room and using them as a tv stand?  Nothing!  Have at it, we say.

We’ve come up with a pretty simple example as a test, one that allows for a fairly good sized television and provides ample space for sound equipment and CD/DVD storage.  Everything in the design depends on what you have for equipment; it’s easy enough to change though since it’s not one gigantic piece of furniture.  Using kitchen cabinets means that it’s modular and customizable.

On either side of the television are stacked wall cabinets, 30″H x 24″W x 18″D, each with two adjustable shelves. On the floor in between them is a subwoofer with a block to either side.  These blocks can be more cabinets, or some sort of framed in piece strong enough to hold up the television.

Above these is the television itself, and above that is another wall cabinet.  We used a 12″H x 42″W x 12″D, which you’d have to bump out a bit to be flush with the rest of the cabinets, but you could get a cabinet with the same depth of 18″ and figure out which height will look best.  Certain cabinet companies might have the exact size you need here.

TV cabinet made with Wall Cabinets

The idea is that you can get a totally customized television cabinet with kitchen cabinets for a fraction of what you would pay someone to build a comparable piece of furniture.  We priced this one in Birch in a higher-end semi-custom cabinet company.  With solid doors, it weighs in around $1900.  With the glass pictured the price is in the $2500 range.  Again though, this could change easily, depending on what you need.

Remember too that tv cabinets are not the only application for kitchen cabinets.  Using similar ideas, it’s possible to make office desks, board room multimedia presentation centers, computer armoires, and many more.

A Marketable Computer Science Degree May Mean Specializing

Computer Science degrees are offered at hundreds, if not thousands of colleges across the country for a good reason; the demand for computer experts has never been higher. In fact, the need for computer scientists will continue to rise through at least 2015 according to the United State Department of Labor’s 2006 report on career growth.

What many people don’t realize is that part of the hiring increase of the future in the computer sciences area includes a trend toward more specialization. According to the Department of Labor’s Occupational Outlook Handbook, “The explosive use of computers has created a high demand for specialists to provide advice to users, as well as for day-to-day administration, maintenance, and support of computer systems and networks.”

When considering a career in the computer sciences, you should consider colleges and universities that offer a variety of programs under the umbrella of either computer science degrees or information technology degrees, as the terms are interchangeable. Look to see if the school offers just one degree or if they offer several different specializations. Ideally, a school should offer at least three bachelor’s degrees that are more tightly focused, such as Computer Programming, Network Engineering or Database Administration, all of which would fall under Management Information Systems (MIS).

The Department of Labor’s report also recommends that anyone pursuing a computer science degree be sure to pursue ongoing education after a degree is achieved and a job is landed. Because of the rapidly changing face of computing, it’s essential that anyone working in this industry continue to build on his education by getting additional certifications and adding new skills every few years.

Find a college that also offers ongoing certifications that are licensed by leaders in the industry, such as Microsoft’s various programs, Cisco’s CCNA and Net+. Knowing that you can return to your alma mater for continuing education is a great way to ensure that your certification courses will be of the same high caliber as your undergraduate classes.

Outlook is Good for Properly Trained Specialists

The Occupational Outlook Handbook of 2006 is adamant in its belief that there is no end in sight to the increasing need for computer specialists. It lists numerous specific titles that require intense training in particular areas, including:

Computer Systems Analysts
Computer Programmers
Software Engineers/Developers (consistently growing as businesses continue to require new, highly specialized software to suit their needs)
Database Administrators
Computer Support Specialists
Data Communication Analysts/Webmasters (increasingly popular in retail as more businesses open online, virtual storefronts)
Computer Systems Administrators (expected to be one of the fastest growing careers in the next five years)
Cyber Security (a relatively new field that has taken off like a rocket as online terrorism and corporate espionage has increasingly threatened corporate computer systems)

The best computer science degree programs will not only include a wide range of specializations, but will also offer different types of degrees as well. Ideally, a college should offer Associate’s, Bachelor’s and Master’s Degrees along with various types of certification. This will help guarantee that the teaching staff is current on all the latest advancements and also giving you the most educational options. With computer training being in such high demand, you may even find that you can get a great job with one degree and get reimbursement through your employer to pursue a higher-level degree.

With so many reasons to go into the computer sciences and so many highly specialized career options available, pursuing one of the many specialized computer science degrees now offered is a great investment in your future.
